Once nearly extinct in the 1950s, the Bourbourg Duck has been successfully revived and is now recognized for both its meat and egg-laying qualities. It remains relatively rare outside France, making purebreds especially prized by breeders.

Identification
The Bourbourg Duck is a large, plump bird with predominantly white plumage. Its pinkish-white bill and yellowish-orange shanks complement its clean, almost regal appearance. The body is long and horizontal, reminiscent of the Aylesbury Duck, giving it a solid, grounded stance. Ducklings grow quickly and reach a robust, adult size with ease.
Breed History
Originating in the Bourbourg region of France, between Calais and Dunkirk, at the end of the 1800s, this breed was developed from Mertchem and Aylesbury stock. Breed standards were officially established in 1924. The Bourbourg Duck’s revival after near extinction reflects its enduring value as a dual-purpose breed.

A dual-purpose breed prized for both egg and meat production. Bourbourg Ducks are known for tender, flavorful meat and reliably laid large eggs.
Eggs
Females lay eggs weighing about 70 grams, with pinkish-white shells. They are excellent for both consumption and hatching, producing healthy, fast-growing ducklings.
